Login and Registration
Do I have to register to place a bid on an item?
Why do I have to include my credit card information to register?
Winning bids are charged automatically at the close of an auction so only registered users who provide a valid credit card can bid. In order to prevent fraud, upon registration charitybuzz will verify your credit card to make sure the card is active and not reported as stolen. Your credit card will not be processed until you have successfully bid on and won an item.
What security measures does charitybuzz use to keep my personal and credit card information safe?
Safeguarding your personal information is of the utmost importance to us, which is why we adhere to the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), which is a set of requirements around data security, that covers areas like security policies and their enforcement, system and network architecture, software design, and monitoring and testing. To that end, all transactions are conducted via a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encrypted channel. Your credit card information and other personally identifiable information (PII) is never sent in plain unencrypted text; in addition, transaction information is stored in a secure and encrypted manner. From a physical security standpoint, our servers are maintained in a secured, limited-access hosting center. In order for us to contact you, our employees do have access to your name and contact information. However, no one has access to your credit card information.
How can I track the bidding activity on auction items I am interested in?
It's easy. Log into your charitybuzz account and go to the item you are interested in watching. Click the red Watch This Item button. The button will then change to read Watching This Item. You can monitor the closing date, next minimum bid and number of bids on items you're watching from your Account Information page. We will send you a reminder email highlighting items you're watching at 6 AM EST the morning that the items are scheduled to close. You can remove an item from your watch list from your Account Information page or by clicking the Watching This Item button on the description page of the item.
Can children bid on auction items?
No, all charitybuzz registered bidders must be of legal age. Children are not allowed to place bids at any time. Some auction experiences such as set visits, walk-on roles, etc. are not appropriate for children. Those restrictions are outlined in an auction item's terms. If you have any questions about children attending an auction experience as the winner's guest, please email info@charitybuzz.com before placing your bid.

Bidding On & Paying for Auction Items
How do I place a bid?
Once you are registered, you are ready to place bids. To place a bid on an auction lot, click the Bid Now button. The current bid and the next minimum bid are displayed. Type in the amount you wish to bid and click the bid now button. You will be asked to confirm your bid on the following page. Be sure to click the Confirm Bid button, otherwise your bid will not be placed.
Max Bid
Max bidding allows you to bid the maximum amount you wish to bid for an auction lot. Your maximum bid won't be displayed to other bidders, but will be displayed as the current bid based on the bidding increment. The following example illustrates max bidding:
- Auction Lot 1000 has a current bid of $0. The minimum bid is $300.
- Juan places and confirms a maximum bid of $500. Juan's bid is displayed as $300. The next minimum bid is $350.
- Sally places a bid of $350, but she is automatically notified onscreen that the bid was not accepted because it did not exceed the maximum bid placed by a previous bidder (Juan)
- Juan's bid is automatically increased to $350.
- If no other bids are placed, Juan is the winner at $350.
- If another bidder overtakes Juan 's $500 max bid, he will receive an outbid notice.
In rare instances, the winning bidder may inadvertently "bid up" his or her own max bid, if the subsequent max bid prompts a higher bid increment. Continuing the example above:
- Sally places a bid of $500, but since Juan bid $500 first, he is still the winner at $500.
- Juan sees that another bidder is interested and decides that he wants to increase his max bid from $500 to $700.
- Because the bid increment at $500.01 is $100, Juan has outbid himself and now has a winning bid of $600.
Reviewing the bid activity for any given lot and our published bid increments (see below) will assist you in determining appropriate max bid amounts. If you have any questions, contact us at info@charitybuzz.com.
What are the bidding increments?

| 50000.01 | 9999999.99 | 5000.00 |
Will I get notified if I am outbid?
Yes, you will receive an email once you have been outbid.
Why did the auction closing time extend by 10 minutes after I placed my bid?
This is called "popcorn" bidding: Bids placed on an item within the last 10 minutes of the auction will extend the closing time on that lot an additional 10 minutes. This gives all bidders an opportunity to place a competing bid. All lots will close when there have been no bids placed within the last remaining 10 minutes.
What does liveBID mean in the auction lot description?
In addition to an online auction, charities frequently conduct live galas and feature a live auction at the event. For the auction lots that are included in the online auction and the live auction, we note them with "liveBID" in the lot description, and we close the online bidding the day of the live auction. We contact the highest bidders on those liveBID lots by phone to see if the bidders want us to continue bidding on their behalf at the live auction. Please email info@charitybuzz.com with any questions.
How do I know if I'm a winning bidder on an item?
You will receive an email stating that you are the winning bidder pending payment. Once your charge card has been successfully processed, you will receive another email stating that you are the winner.
How do I pay for an item?
The credit card you provided upon registration will automatically be billed for the final bid amount, including shipping, handling and any applicable sales tax. For auction lots that are of a very high value, we can accept wire transfers or bank checks. If you are interested in paying via alternate methods, please contact us at info@charitybuzz.com or at (212) 243-3900 prior to the auction close. charitybuzz does not accept personal checks.
Shipping and Handling
charitybuzz® uses UPS, FedEx or courier service for shipping of all items. We charge a minimum of $9.95 for shipping, handling and processing for all lots. We insure everything for the full value of the actual winning bid. We review the weight and value for all lots and average the cost of shipping by location to determine a realistic shipping charge unless the terms indicate special delivery instructions. Shipping charge may vary based upon the location of the winner.
Sales Tax
charitybuzz Inc. is registered in the state of New York and California. New York or California sales tax will be charged on your winnings in addition to the final bid amount and shipping cost. Sales tax is considered a destination tax. The value of the tax is determined by your shipping address on file. According to New York state law and California state law, the percentage value of tax charged will vary based on the city. If no shipping address is specified in your account, the system will automatically use your billing address as a destination. In this case, sales tax will be charged based on the address where your credit card is registered. Please contact us at info@charitybuzz.com with any questions.
How do I see how much an item closed for?
At the request of a significant number of our donors and winners, we do not disclose the final auction price of closed lots.
Is the amount I paid for an auction lot tax-deductible?
Typically, the amount paid above the estimated value of the item is tax deductible. However, we recommend consulting with a tax professional regarding tax deductions.
Can I have items that I win shipped to a different address?
Yes. Log into your account, then click on View my shipping address on file. You can edit your shipping address there.
Can I retract a bid?
No. All bids placed on the charitybuzz website are legally binding. If you are the successful bidder, you will enter into a legal contract to purchase the item and will be considered the buyer of the lot. Please consider your bids carefully before placing them.
Redeeming Your Winnings
When will I receive my item?
If you've won a physical item, such as tickets, a travel certificate, or merchandise, we make every effort to ship your item to you as quickly as possible after your credit card payment has been authorized. In some cases, items are shipped directly from the donor. For celebrity experiences and other items, you will receive a letter and/or email with contact information for making the arrangements. If you have any questions about the status of your item, please contact us at info@charitybuzz.com or via phone at (212) 243-3900.
How do I make arrangements with the celebrity once I've won?
You will receive instructions from the auction specialist assigned to the auction via letter or email.
What does "meet and greet" with a celebrity mean?
A "meet and greet" is an opportunity to introduce yourself and say hello to a celebrity. This may or may not include the opportunity to have your photo taken together. charitybuzz cannot guarantee how long a meet and greet will last. It may be very brief or last for a few minutes. In some cases, the meet and greet will be in a group setting along with other fans and guests. If you have questions about a particular item, please email us at info@charitybuzz.com before placing your bid.
Does charitybuzz conduct background checks?
We screen auction winners and their guests for suitability regarding celebrity experiences. In certain cases, a criminal background check is conducted with the winner's consent.
